OUR MISSION

Sac Valley Youth Shooting Sports Association (SVYSSA) is a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) and functions to further firearms safety through education and training in support of youth shooting sports and competitions.  Our purpose is to emphasize the positive influence shooting sports can have in a youth’s life.  We do this by providing a safe, comfortable, positive environment that enhances the athlete’s self-concept while building character and aiding in personal growth through safe, educational, and socially acceptable involvement in shooting sports. This will be accomplished while promoting the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, teamwork, and ethical behavior. Also, pushing athletes to be competitive in competitions, life, and school.

We sponsor two youth shooting sports programs:  4H Shooting Sports and the Sac Valley Clay Slayers (SVC), a competitve clay team in the Sacramento, California area.  Both shooting sports programs are supported, funded, and organized under Sac Valley Youth Shooting Sports Association 501(c)(3). SVC competes under the already established California Youth Shooting Sports Association (CYSSA), a youth competition clay league in California.

TESTIMONIALS

"Since Riley was just a toddler, he has always been fascinated with firearms. From building them with Lego blocks to shooting nerf guns to playing video games, it was evident that firearms were a passion for Riley. We searched for ways where Riley could learn and grow his knowledge and interest in firearms. We came across 4H and Sgt Correa, and we then realized that he also coached a trap shooting team. Riley was initially hesitant as shotguns were not on his list of known firearms. Riley gave it a try anyway and hasn't looked back! Since that first day of trying out trap shooting, Riley completed his first season with the junior varsity squad with one first-place trophy and three third-place trophies. The knowledge that Riley has gained in range safety has been unparalleled. This team has been an excellent experience for Riley, building friendships, making memories, and building leadership skills. Riley also recently competed in shooting clays and learned a whole new version of competition with the shotgun. We are excited to see where Riley goes with his first year on the varsity squad!"  Jeff Mackey (parent of Riley Mackey)

"It is my privilege to teach our youth to responsibly and safely enjoy firearms. It’s our American heritage as well as our right in this country to legally and safely own and operate firearms. My goal is to teach youth the skills, knowledge, and attitude necessary for safely owning and using a firearm. As Head Coach I strive to impart leadership, mentoring, volunteerism, team work, and goal setting, so they can strive to reach higher goals and be competitive in the team, life, and in school. Success is a mindset. You will never reach a goal you have yet to set for yourself."  Head Coach Josh "Sgt" Correa

"After expressing an interest in expanding his horizons for traditional team sports, Manny joined his high school's 4H Shooting Sports club. He learned from NRA-trained coaches how to safely and properly use and store rifles, pistols and shotguns. When the opportunity to try trap shooting arose, Manny thought he would try it. Having only shot rifles with his dad at stationary targets, he wasn't sure he would enjoy it or even be able to hit a single clay. However, after his first practice, he was hooked!! He was a natural, and while he loved the camaraderie of the team atmosphere, he also particularly enjoyed the individual challenge of trap shooting. Setting goals to improve his overall personal score, he also supported his teammates with similar goals, which in turn helped improve the overall team score every week. Manny and his teammates, comprised of new and veteran participants of girls and boys from ages 12 to 18, quickly began placing in tournaments. As Manny became more familiar with his technique and firearm, he also gained valuable safety lessons, targeting techniques, and range etiquette from many experienced coaches and range masters willing to share their knowledge. Joining the trap team allowed Manny to lead an inclusive team and not be limited to someone's athletic ability. Manny has met youth shooters from across California and Nevada, making many lifelong friendships that continue outside of the trap season."  Darrin Marin (parent to Manny Marin)
